Tongue Twisters

My darling husband is an avid reader and yearner (is that a word?) of knowledge.
He will read anything if it is regarding politics, science, history, and just general knowledge.

When we were first married, my mother bought him a copy of Uncle Johns Fast-Acting Long-Lasting Bathroom Reader editions. These books are full of general knowledge of just about anything you would EVER want to know (or NOT!) He LOVES them, therefore, whenever there is a new edition out, we buy it.

He likes to sit in the sitting room and read them. Well, as I was cleaning today, I picked it up to put it away and the page, Tongue Twisters, was open.

This is your challenge. It is fun and I can already hear you laughing.

Say each sentence three times (AT LEAST), and have fun...

Who washed Washington's white woolens when Washington's washerwoman went west?

Lesser leather never weathered wetter weather better.

Shave a cedar shingle thin.

A thin little boy picked six thick thistle sticks.

Flee from fog to fight flu fast!

Give papa a cup of proper coffee in a copper coffee cup.

Fred fed Ted bread, and Ted fed bread.

I just want to know WHO made these up...
